"Why Obesity Is Important, Why We Are Missing It, and What We Need to Do About It" - NOSSCR Presentation

Jinks presented a 1-hour seminar entitled: "Resuscitation of an Old and Friendly Medical Listing aka Why Obesity is Important, Why We Are Missing It, and What We Need to Do About It" on February 22, 2014 to over 60 attorneys from eight states comprising the Tenth Circuit of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives (NOSSCR) in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Jinks addressed the impact that being overweight has on an individual's ability to work, and how it combines with other physical and/or mental impairments to render someone unable to work. His outline was content-heavy and an obesity form for primary care physicians was included in his materials.

Several attendees commented that his presentation was the best one of the seminar. He has been asked to repeat it at the National Conference in Law Vegas, NV in Fall, 2014, where over 1,000 Social Security attorneys will converge for one of their two conferences a year.  Jinks has spoken before four NOSSCR National Conferences over the past three years.

Utah Workers Compensation Seminar 2014

Jinks recently finished training nine lawyers during his Utah Workers Compensation law seminar in February, 2014; all of the lawyers were new to this area of law.

The 2-day seminar provided the attendees with 14 hours CLE, copies of all necessary checklists and forms, invaluable legal advice about industrial and occupational disease cases, (as well as third-party and tangential claims), in-depth analysis of legal theories, critical case law and strategies for winning cases, along with how to make a living and a life out of representing injured workers and their families in Utah.

This was Jinks' 9th time presenting a comprehensive Utah workers compensation law seminar. He has now trained over 100 lawyers in workers compensation law in Utah, and has prepared them to represent industrially injured workers.

To be able to provide new lawyers with a specialty in the law is unique and Jinks' seminar is the only one of its kind in the state.

Jinks presented a one-hour presentation on "Killer Ideas and a Killer Physical RFC Form" at a NOSSCR conference in Washington, D.C. on May 17, 2013.

Updates to Social Security Disability Law

On April 23, 2013, Jinks gave a presentation to the staff and supervisors at the Southern Utah Office of Vocational Rehabilitation in St. George, Utah regarding changes to the Social Security Disability law.

Counselors at the Office Of Vocational Rehabilitation need to be aware of how Social Security Disability benefits can help them both from a medical as well as a vocational standpoint to help their injured or disabled clients back to full and part-time work.  It can also help during retraining or if a claimant needs to return to school.

Jinks gave a similar presentation three years ago at the agency but was asked to present again due to turnover of staff members and changes in the Social Security Disability law and practice.

How to Improve Listening & Communication Skills

On February 25, 2013 and April 8, 2013, Jinks presented two one-hour sessions designed to help the staff of supervisors at The Learning Center in St. George, Utah.  Jinks was asked to present on: how to improve listening and communication skills.  During his two training sessions, Jinks defined and gave examples of ten key factors which improve the ability to listen and communicate.  Group exercises allowed high participant involvement during the session.

NOSSCR 10th Circuit Seminar: "Killer Ideas and Forms for Mental RFC's"

Jinks presented at the NOSSCR 10th Circuit Seminar in Colorado Springs, CO on February 9, 2013. He presented a one-hour presentation entitled, Killer Ideas and Forms for Mental RFC's to 75 attorneys.

Jinks described the problem of obtaining good medical opinion letters from treating physicians.  He also addressed the poor government forms that are recommended to obtain medical opinions from the panel of doctors whose medical reports are routinely used to deny valid disability claims.  He then shared a winning strategy for getting good medical opinions by use of forms and definitions he has created, and for cross-examinig medical and vocational expert witnesses who frequently testify at hearings in opposition to claims.

Jinks has presented this same topic to over 600 lawyers at two national conventions of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives (NOSSCR) which has changed the landscape of mental impairments and made winning mental cases much easier for those attorneys representing disabled claimants across the country.

Utah Workers Compensation Law Seminar

Jinks presented a Utah Workers Compensation Law Seminar in Salt lake City, Utah on November 29-30, 2012.

Jinks trained 15 new lawyers in Utah WC law over a period of two days - 14 total hours of lecture and Q & A - at the Utah State Bar Offices in Salt Lake City.  The training covered 31 different subjects and was designed to jump-start the 15 lawyers who attended into representing injured workers in Utah.

Presently there are an insufficient number of lawyers doing WC law cases and Jinks' two-day seminar was designed to increase the number of available lawyers who would handle injured worker claims.  It was a great success.

This is the 7th time Jinks has shared his knowledge of Utah WC law with new lawyers over the past decade in similarly designed seminars.  His seminars have tripled the size of the Applicants Bar which makes it now much easier for an injured workers to find a lawyer to help them with their case.  Seven of his attendees over the past three years have been Defense Counsel.  Jinks welcomes them as well since, as he said, "I don't mind them attending and learning what I have to share.  I would rather deal with an educated Defense lawyer than a stupid one."

To date Jinks has formally trained 72 lawyers in Utah Workers Compensation Law and mentored over 100 during his career as an attorney.

Jinks lectured and then separated the group into smaller groups in order to evaluate each others' business cards utilizing the principles he lectured on.  The presentation lasted one hour.
